About The City of Naperville, Illinois
Naperville is a vibrant city located within the Chicago Metropolitan Area in Illinois. Situated 28 miles west of downtown Chicago, Naperville is a western suburb known for its rich history and thriving community.
Founded in 1831 by Joseph Naper, the city was originally called Naper’s Settlement, named after its founder. Nestled along the scenic DuPage River, Naperville quickly grew, and by 1832, it was home to over 100 residents.
In the 1960s, Naperville experienced a significant population surge as a result of Chicago’s urban sprawl. This growth continued over the years, and according to the 2020 census, Naperville’s population stands at 149,540, making it the fourth-most populous city in the state of Illinois.
One of Naperville’s notable landmarks is the Moser Tower and Millennium Carillon, which houses one of the world’s four largest carillons. This impressive musical instrument adds a unique charm to the city’s skyline. Additionally, Naperville boasts an extensive network of parks and forest preserves, offering residents and visitors ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. Among these parks is the popular Centennial Beach, where people can enjoy swimming and other water activities.
Education is highly valued in Naperville, with two school districts, District 203 and District 204, serving the community. The city also has various media outlets, including NCTV17, providing local news and information to its residents.

Naperville’s largest employer is Edward Hospital, which provides healthcare services to the community and employs approximately 4,500 individuals.
